Newham College tailoring students get a Military master class

Newham College’s tailoring students were treated to an expert masterclass in military tailoring this week from Lee Dawson, Managing Director of Samuel Brothers, Bespoke Tailors and Military Uniform Specialists since 1830.

Lee spent over an hour with the students, giving them the inside track on what makes an excellent bespoke military tailor – and with clients including Royalty and Lords, his knowledge was invaluable.

As well as a superb advice session on measuring and materials, where he used students as models and tested them with some tough questions, Lee also provided some fascinating insights into the world of bespoke military suits, including tips on how to adapt them for different weapons and musical instruments.

After a lively Q&A session, where the students got to hear what Lee really felt about Prince William and Harry’s uniforms for the Royal Wedding, he invited the students to visit Samuel Brothers in the near future. He also told them that the company was always looking out for talented tailors, so watch this space for news of Newham College’s first military tailoring apprentice!

Afterwards, Lee said “Newham College is doing some great work. The tailoring course is really encouraging and well suited to the market. I really enjoyed speaking to the students too. They are clearly very focused and the feedback was very positive”.
