Skills for Jobs helps real people develop real skills

Case study:

The Skills for Jobs programme at Newham College provides opportunities for unemployed people to gain the training and qualifications that will help them into paid employment. A wide variety of training is offered in a range of sectors including: construction, maintenance, security and catering. With our extensive links, successful learners get a guaranteed job interview from a local employer.

The programme has helped over 500 people into work and employment. In particular, Harvey Nota, a long term unemployed learner, completed his Security Industry Authority (SIA) Training qualification through the Skills for Jobs programme. The Skills for Jobs team described Harvey initially as a shy person who lacked self-esteem; they helped build his confidence and encouraged him to pursue his goal of working for the Police Force. Harvey is now a Police Officer for the London Metropolitan Police.

Harvey is delighted with his achievements and credits the Skills for Jobs programme in making him realise his dreams:

“Since starting work my family are very proud of me. I can’t wait to be able to take them on holiday and have a better quality of life. Thanks to the Newham College Skills for Jobs programme I feel I am now a proper role model for my children and local Newham residents.”  Harvey Nota
