Company profile:
Balfour Beatty Rail has been awarded the design contract by
Network Rail for the Crossrail South East Section. The contract
covers the two mile stretch of railway from Plumstead to Abbey Wood
in south-east London, including the design for the new Abbey Wood
station, which is the terminus Crossrail station on the south east
spur. The station work will provide two new Crossrail platforms and
improved access. In addition, a four-track railway will be created
requiring Network Rail to improve five bridges and build two new
overhead electrified railway lines. The contract provides an option
for Network Rail to extend the scope to also include the build.

Jerram Falkus
Company profile:
We thought that it might be useful to provide you with a little
information about Jerram Falkus Construction Ltd that you can take
away and read at your leisure.
The company was founded by James Jerram as general builders in
East Ham in 1884.
Although we were located in Newham for many years, we moved to
Barking then relocated to our current premises in Shoreditch,
London EC2 in 1985.
We are still owned and managed by the Jerram family and retain
very close links with Newham.
As a Main Contractor, we turn over in excess of £25 million per
annum, carrying out traditional and Design Build projects ranging
from £250,000 to £15million in value. We also have a carpentry and
joinery company, Falkus Joinery Ltd who are based at our Shoreditch
premises.
We undertake new build and refurbishment works of any kind in
the public and private sectors, and are particularly strong in
Education, Health, Sport/Leisure and Housing.
We generally operate within the M25 area, including in all
London Boroughs and the Home Counties, with much of our work being
in the Central, Inner and East London Boroughs.
At the beginning of this year, along with our construction
partner Laing O’Rourke we were successful in our bid for Newham’s
Building Schools for the Future programme (BSF). This secures us a
number of secondary schools.
We are currently working at Curwen Primary School, E13.Further
schools are expected to come on stream within the next 4-6
months.
Jerram Falkus are actively bidding for and securing work in
Newham and its neighbouring boroughs, and are seeking to expand our
local supply chain to allow us to service these projects.

London Borough of Newham is part of the East London Solutions
group (ELS) www.eastlondonsolutions.org.
The group brings five London Councils together to explore ways to
share procurement efficiencies between authorities in East London.
As a consequence, five councils in east London will be
participating in two collaborative procurement exercises for
construction frameworks. These other councils are the London
Borough of Barking and Dagenham, London Borough of Havering, London
Borough of Redbridge and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Framework agreement for responsive maintenance and minor
works
This framework is for responsive maintenance and minor works. It
is anticipated that it will cover various categories of work up to
a value of £150k and will be split into reactive and minor works.
It is being led by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets on behalf of
the ELS.
It is due to be advertised in the Official Journal of the
European Union (OJEU) during April 2011.
Framework agreement for major construction
works
The framework will cover major construction works from £50,000
up to the EU threshold (currently £3,927,260). It is being led by
the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham on behalf of the
ELS.
