Following the success of 18 pilot regions across the country, including London East, "Train to Gain" launched nationally on the 1st August 2006.

Newham College continues as one of the argest providers of this initiative across the London Area, focusing on work with companies and employees to enable those without any level 2 qualifications (or the equivalent) to work towards, or be recognised for, their first full level 2 NVQ qualification - without any charge to the employer/employee.

The programme is very learner led, with training and assessment offered within the workplace offering convenience and obvious advantages to both the employee and the employer.

For businesses wishing to sign up for Train To Gain an initial application is made to the Learning & Skill Council. Then, once a contract has been signed, a referral for training will be made. At Newham we train people in courses as diverse as IT, Food & Drink Service, Professional Cookery, Cleaning, Fork Lift Truck Driving, Customer Service and Basic Skills.

For an informal discussion on the potential benefits for your company and employees, contact Jackie Reeve at Newham College on 0208 522 5709 or by email on jacqueline.reeve@newham.ac.uk
