European

Driving the Development of the European Fashion Designer
Qualification
Leonardo Da Vinci - Transfer of Innovation 2008 -
2010
With increasing globalisation of the fashion business, the role
of the Fashion Designer has been transformed with greater
emphasis on communication, technology, business and technical
skills, as well as the need for greater mobility throughout
Europe.
Working with project partners in the Netherlands, Lithuania and
Italy, this innovative project is the first of its kind for the
fashion sector and is helping to support the development of a
network of Europe-wide fashion qualifications mapped to the
European Qualification Framework (EQF).

European employers in the sector, the findings from this
research will be mapped against existing qualifications in
Universities and Fashion Colleges across Europe to establish how
many of these competencies are currently being taught and where
necessary develop new modules and units of learning to meet
employers needs.
• Employers and sector specialists expectations in the
recruitment and development of fashion designers
• The skills which take priority in the workplace for a
designer in different European fashion businesses
• The competencies and skills required to support mobility to
allow designers to work throughout Europe
• Qualifications to be easily recognised by employers
