The European Fashion Designer Competition 2010 is a
Europe-wide garment design competition, open to groups of students
studying fashion across Europe. It is part funded by the
Leonardo da Vinci action of the European Commission’s Lifelong
Learning Programme.
Winners announced, thank you to all who have
entered, click here.
Competition Brief
In 2010, the
V&A (Victoria & Albert Museum) in London opened
its celebrated Medieval and Renaissance galleries, which provide a
wealth of inspiration to artists and designers internationally.
Research European Medieval and Renaissance
artefacts - you may begin your research with website links provided
in the information pack. Seek out masterpieces of design,
craft, decoration and colour which are rich in pattern, texture and
form. Garments from these times distinguished class, wealth
and occasion, and their quality has lasted centuries. Take
inspiration for a single garment design from this research into the
art and culture of the Medieval and Renaissance period throughout
Europe.
“I’ll be looking for originality whilst still
linking to our past. The winners will be a team who show they
have really captured the style and energy of the medieval and
renaissance period whilst incorporating their own unique and modern
style" - Zandra Rhodes
